Snehdeep Aggarwal - Chairman
Snehdeep is the chairman, founder and owner of Bhartiya Group. He has charted a distinguished and inimitable career, reflected in the establishment of Bhartiya Group. Today, under his leadership the Bhartiya Group has diversified into three business verticals. The original leather business has established an unrivalled position in the industry with an enviable portfolio in terms of scale of delivery, bandwidth of range of products and development potential. The real estate and infrastructure business has since 2003 organically developed a portfolio of projects with end value USD 7 billion. He holds a Masters in Economics from Punjab University and has 20 years of diverse business experience. He is currently the Managing Director of Bhartiya International Ltd., the flagship listed company of the Bhartiya Group. He holds directorships in several other Bhartiya Group companies and is the Chairman of BUILDco and Sage Modern Capital.
Jatin Patel - Managing Director
Jatin is the co-founder of the Fund Manager with responsibility for strategy and business development, investment approvals and relationship management. He has over 10 years experience in structuring transactions, investment banking and alternative investment management. In 1999 Jatin joined UBS Investment Bank where his role within real estate practice included origination, analysis and execution. In 2002 he joined Barclays Bank, where he focused on building relationships with major Middle Eastern families and the Indian diaspora. Here Jatin specialised in identifying opportunities and raising institutional and private funds to invest in those opportunities, both in real estate and private equity. Until recently, he was an Associate at Gottex Fund Management, a $15 billion hedge fund business, covering investment marketing and client services. Jatin holds an MSc in Actuarial Science.
Dinesh Mittal - Director
Mr Mittal, IAS (UP, 1977) is an Additional Secretary in the Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce & Industry. Prior to that, since 2004, he was the Managing Director of IIDC and designated Joint Secretary, Ministry of Commerce. IIDC is the advisory and project development wing of IL&FS, Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services. In his capacity at IIDC, he is instrumental in the development of infrastructure projects and related components from project conceptualisation to project implementation. Some of the significant contributions of IIDC have been Delhi-Noida Toll Bridge, Visakhapatnam Industrial Water Supply Program and Bangalore International Airport. Mr Mittal is also a Senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer. In 1977, Mr Mittal joined the IAS, which is the key administrative service of the Government of India, both in the Central Government as well as in the States. IAS officers play a role in influencing and implementing government policies and decisions. The precursor of the Indian Administrative Service was the Indian Civil Service of the British rule in India. IAS officers are appointed by the President of India.
Mr D Shashank - Director
Mr Shashank is a former senior Government civil servant from the Indian Foreign Service (1966). He served as Foreign Secretary for the Government of India (2001-02). He has also worked as Secretary (Economic Relations) in the External Affairs Ministry. Mr Shashank has served as the Ambassador of India to Copenhagen, Denmark (1999 to 2001), Seoul, Republic of Korea (1994 to 1999) and Tripoli, Libya (1991 to 1994); and Minister (Political) and Deputy High Commissioner of India in Islamabad, Pakistan. He has also served in different diplomatic capacities in Cairo, New York, Hanoi and Brussels.
Arjun Aggarwal - Director
Arjun is a founding director of the Fund Manager and is responsible for advising in connection with investment sourcing, approvals and exit strategies. He has over 7 years of professional experience in Indian infrastructure and real estate, having set up BUILDco, the infrastructure and real estate business of the Bhartiya Group, which has to date acquired assets with an estimated combined completed value of over $5 billion including a retail and financial district within an integrated township, I.T. SEZ Project and a 300 acre Leather SEZ. In addition, he holds directorships in several Bhartiya Group companies. Arjun holds an MBA from Tanaka Business School (Imperial College), London.
David Comyn MRICS - Director
David is a founding director of the fund manager and has over 25 years of professional experience in UK commercial real estate. He is a director of Savills Commercial Limited and specialises in the Investment and Development sector in London. He has raised in excess of £500million of seed equity funding to initiate the development of several large office-led and mixed use development projects in London with an end value exceeding £3billion. He is a partner in a Real Estate Investment Fund that was established in 2002, with the backing of Morley Fund Managers and Electra Partners which has invested in a £350m end value mixed use project in central London close to Covent Garden and Soho. David specialises in identifying opportunities and raising institutional funds to invest in those opportunities. Such funds include Clerical Medical, Nottinghamshire County Council Pension Fund, Schroder Exempt Property Unit Trust, Scottish Amicable part of the Prudential, and Life Funds controlled by Morley Fund Managers. David sits on the Remuneration Committee of Savills Commercial Ltd and is a member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors.
Vijay Lulla – Finance Director
Vijay is the Chief Financial Officer of the real estate business. Most recently he was the Group CFO for over 14 years with the K. Raheja Constructions Group, one of the largest real estate developers in India. In this capacity Vijay has managed investments of over 50 million and committed more than 2 billion in strategic deals with partners and developers in India. At Raheja, Vijay was responsible for establishing the investment strategy and portfolio management, including acquiring investments and overseeing the execution and investment management of the assets. With experience of residential, commercial, IT parks, retail, etc. Vijay has executed hotels, malls, retail chains, SEZs projects across India. He is well versed in raising capital from traditional and alternative sources using innovative structures. He also has experience is structuring tax-efficient and development strategies to maximize returns. Vijay has been interacting with corporate and HNI investors and has expertise in setting up IT systems for MIS and internal ERP systems for the Group. At Sage, Vijay works with the investment committee on fund strategies and executing the investments, including identifying, negotiating & structuring, financing & exiting investments.
Akshay Thakker, Director
Akshay is a Director of the Fund Manager. He is responsible for strategy and business development and formulation of specific strategies for investments, appraisals and exits. He has over 10 years of global experience encompassing corporate strategy development, mergers and acquisitions, private equity and real estate development in India and UK. In 2002, Akshay was enlisted by the Board of Directors of Old House Holdings plc, a UK-based real estate group with revenues of GBP100m and interests in wide ranging sectors of the real estate industry, to formulate a comprehensive group-level strategy. After successful implementation in 2003, Akshay moved to UBEST Inc., a telecom software enterprise, with a specific remit for developing growth enhancing strategies. Here, Akshay worked on expanding the footprint of the conventional business by setting up practices in Latin America and Africa apart from leading an acquisition of a target company with complementary competencies. In late 2005, Akshay moved to India to work on the country’s first Real Estate PE Fund of $500million for IL&FS, a leading infrastructure and financial services conglomerate. Here he committed more than $100 million in strategic deals with partners and developers in India across, commercial, IT parks, retail, etc. Akshay also manages his personal family portfolio of real estate assets worth over $100 million. He holds an MBA from Warwick Business School, UK.
Anurag Jain – Vice President, Investments
Anurag is a Vice-President with a focus on real estate investments across India. He has over 10 years experience in investment banking, corporate/project finance, infrastructure advisory and mergers & acquisitions. Anurag has been involved in the acquisition and financing of more than US$1 billion of real estate assets, at DTZ International, ICICI, AXIS Bank and AK Capital Services. Anurag is a specialist in the origination and financing of high value property investments. Currently he works on origination, appraisal, structuring and valuation of real estate deals. Anurag is a Chartered Accountant by qualification.
